The LEGASYS Lab has several research opportunities for USU undergraduate students interested in gaining research experience in geospatial science or paleoecology. Please contact Dr. Elise Laugier for more information.
Agricultural Legacies in the Semi-Arid Western USA
The LEGASYS lab is accepting graduate students interested in examining long-term land use changes and their legacies in dryland Utah using geospatial approaches (GIS, Remote Sensing, GeoAI). The research will focus on tracing human landscape modification and changing vegetation dynamics using a combination of historical, remote sensing, and ground-based data. Interested applicants should note that the cover letter addressing motivation and qualifications/willingness to learn will be the most important factor in the application evaluation.
Desired qualifications:
1. Some background/interest GIS/remote sensing techniques and the R or Python coding languages. Applicants without formal experience will be considered if they are highly motivated to learn.
2. Some background/interest in human-environment interaction research, such as land-use land cover (LULC) change or landscape ecology approaches.
